Overview

This 6-day self-drive tour of Finland lets you experience highlights of Finnish history and culture, as well as maritime treasures. Pick up your rental car when you arrive in Helsinki, the capital city. Drive around the city and visit sites such as Finlandia Hall and Parliament House. The next day, follow the King’s Road and drive to Porvoo with its cobblestone Old Town and medieval church. Continue the following day to Turku, the oldest town in Finland, famous for its cultural scene, maritime atmosphere and archipelago region. A short drive takes you to Naantali, holiday capital of Finland, where history, art, music and the sea play an essential role. Continue to Tuusula, convenient to the airport for the next day, arriving at Krapi estate, located amid a nationally prestigious cultural environment at the start of the first Finnish museum road. Itinerary

Day 1 – USA/Helsinki
Depart from the East Coast on Icelandair flight to Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

Day 2 - Helsinki
Arrive at Helsinki airport and pick up your rental car. You may drive around Helsinki and get to know the city. Recommended visits include Senate Square, Uspenski Cathedral, Finlandia Hall, Sibelius Park & Monument and the underground church. (Sokos Presidentti or similar)

Day 3 - Helsinki/Porvoo (35 miles)
This morning, perhaps visit Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, a World Heritage Site just a short ferry ride from Market Square. En route to Porvoo, following the King’s Road. you may visit Haikko Manor and the 15th-century Sipoo church. Arrive at Porvoo and take a walking tour in the Old Town. A short drive takes you to Tukkila Farm. Try a traditional Finnish smoked sauna this evening. (Tukkila Farm or similar) (B)

Day 4 - Porvoo/Turku (134 miles)

Today, drive to Turku, on the shores of the river Aura. Follow the King’s Road, perhaps deviating to idyllic Hanko, a resort seaside town at Finland’s southernmost point. Arrive at Turku, Finland’s oldest town and see the 13th-century Castle of Turku, Luostarinmaki outdoor crafts museum, and the museum complex Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova. Drive to Ruissalo, where you can tour the island and visit the Botanical Gardens. (Original Sokos Seurahuone or similar) (B)

Day 5 - Turku/Naantali/Tuusula (125 miles)

After breakfast, take a short drive to Naantali. Walk in the old town, see the medieval church and perhaps visit the rose gardens at Kultaranta estate. At the end of the day, drive to Tuusula, a convenient distance from Helsinki airport for your next day’s departure. Arrive at Krapi estate, located amidst a nationally prestigious cultural environment. (Krapi or similar) (B)

Day 6 - Tuusula/Helsinki (10 miles)

If time allows, visit cultural sites along the museum road. Return your rental car at the airport. Fly to the US via Icelandair, and arrive home the same day. (B)
