Itinerary
Depart New York JFK International Airport via Azores Airlines’ non-stop direct trans-Atlantic flight to the Azores islands (about a 6-hour flight). An autonomous region of Portugal, the Azores is an archipelago comprising nine major islands in the mid-Atlantic off the coast of Portugal.
Arrive at Ponta Delgada Airport on São Miguel Island. Upon arrival you are greeted and transferred to your hotel. (Hotel Marina Atlantico/Grand Hotel Açores Atlântico)
São Miguel is the biggest island in the Portuguese Azores archipelago. Nicknamed the Green Island, it is known for its volcanic scenery, flora and rich marine life, including whales. Ponta Delgada, the regional capital, is home to the 18th-century City Gates, Gothic St. Sebastian Church and 16th-century Fort of São Brás. The twin crater lakes of Sete Cidades, one green and one blue, lie to the northwest. To the east, Furnas has fumaroles and hot springs.
Take a full-day tour to explore the western and central parts of Sao Miguel Island on this tour to Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo.
